Hindustan Gum and Chemicals Ltd was set up as a joint venture between Stein-Hall Inc, USA (presently, Solvay India Holding Inc. USA [Solvay]) and the M.P. Birla group, India in equal ownership in 1962.
HGCL is primarily engaged in the manufacturing of guar gum products/other hydrocolloids and has three manufacturing units situated in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat with total annual capacity of 1,05,500 metric tonne per annum (MTPA) for guar gum powder and 22,500 MTPA of guar gum refined splits
