BHEL is planning to set up a first coal-to-methanol (CTM) pilot plant in Hyderabad. The project involves setting up of a manufacturing facilities to produce methanol with indigenous technology designed, developed by BHEL. BHEL has the technology to produce methanol with purity of more than 99 percent from high ash Indian coals.
This conversion of high ash Indian coals to methanol through the gasification route is the first-of-its-kind technology demonstration in India.
