Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), which was set up at Numaligarh in the district of Golaghat (Assam) in accordance with the provisions made in the historic Assam Accord signed on 15th August 1985, has been conceived as a vehicle for speedy industrial and economic development of the region.
The 3 MMTPA Numaligarh Refinery Limited was dedicated to the nation by 1999.
In February 2016, the company has commissioned 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) wax plant, which is the country’s largest wax producing unit with indigenous technology developed by the Indian Institute of Petroleum-Dehradun, Engineers India Ltd and NRL
In August 2019, the company is planning to venture into oil exploration with an investment of ₹ 1,500 million. The company has sought approvals for commencing exploration in two blocks – Namrup block in Dibrugarh and Mesaki in Tinsukia districts in Assam along with other partners.
