Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd is planning to set up a 2G ethanol plant in Hanagawadi in Davangere district in Karnataka. The company has already acquired 47 acres of land for the project. The project involves setting up of ethanol production facility which uses raw materials like maize stalk, maize combs, cotton stalk, sugarcane waste, coconut fronds and paddy stalk. It will have a production capacity of 60,000 klpd and will consume around 250 tonnes of agro waste.
The project cost is estimated at ₹ 1300 crore. As of November 2019, the project is in planning stage and is likely to go operational by the year 2023.
